I am looking for suggestions of places to go for a vacation in January using Marriott points. We are a family of 4. Our sons are 9 & 8 years old. Here are our desires:
Would the Amelia Island Ritz Carlton possibly meet these requests?
Try Grande Vista in Orlando. My son and I have gone there for golf lessons the last few years - they have a Nick Faldo golf school - it is outstanding. The rooms are like condominiums - large and well furnished - much better than a Residence Inn. Also, in Orlando you have access to lots of other things if you wish.
Amelia Island is fabulous with lots of great golf. Golf Club of Amelia is tied to the Ritz and is a very nice course. Back nine in particular is very enjoyable. Lots to do with family on the property and off the property as Amelia has a beautiful 13 mile beach. Another course worth playing is just off the island - North Hampton. An Arnold Palmer design with some great holes (and reasonably priced). Downtown Fernandina Beach is a great place to take the family in the evening for ice cream and home-made chocolates at Fantistic Fudge - nice shops to pass the time as well.
That being said, if you're looking for warm weather than you're not likely to get that in January on Amelia Island. Better to visit here between April and October to ensure nice beach and pool weather. Even Orlando is iffy in January. If warm weather is a key criteria then you should check out the two Ritz properties in Naples. One is right on the beach and the other is built around a fabulous Greg Norman layout, albeit farther inland. Downtown Naples is also a great place to visit in the evenings for dinner, shopping and people watching.
