Last weekend we attended a fund-raising event for the local animal shelter and purchased some raffle tickets for prizes that had been donated by some of the event's sponsors. With one of our tickets we scored a Leinenkugel Brewing Co. "Canoe-B-Q" -- a promotional canoe-shaped tailgate grill that had been donated by a local package store. It looked perfect for smoking a side of salmon.
Leinenkugel is based in Chippewa Falls, WI, so the great northwoods canoe theme is a natural. The grill is 25 inches bow to stern, with an 11-inch beam. The handle's in the shape of a canoe paddle.
So Labor Day weekend was time to test 'er out. Got the charcoal chimney fired up with the all-natural lump charcoal and got the mesquite chips soakin'...
...and then it was time to get to smokin'.
The Canoe-B-Q proved seaworthy and ready for commissioning. The USS Leinenkugel will be a winner at this year's tailgates.
The captain's treasure.
What an interesting concept - a canoe bq with a paddle handle! As a side note, I love Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, so that makes me love this canoe even more! Hope you enjoyed your feast- my boyfriends dad made smoked brisket last night and it was soo good, but wasn't cooked on a concoction as cool as this!
Looks tremendous, and all for a good cause. Have never even heard of "The Canoe-B-Q" before. Thanks!
