A year ago my wife and I stayed across town to get some activity on her Gold account as she doesn't have meetings any more at Marriott which got her to Gold in the first place. I made the reservation from her account and when we checked into the hotel I put down my Platinum card (which I seldom carry) and poof, "thank you for your loyalty we have a room upgrade for you"!!!
I seriously doubt this is the norm, but worth the try. Or you can use his points for other travel things such as airline tickets or just use them upgrade or not and enjoy the trip for points.
IAHFLYR Does the Republic of Texas permit cohabiting between a Gold and Platinum?
My wife is gold and I am a Life Time Platinum. I transfer my wife's points to my account for use on award travel so that we both benefit from my Platinum status. There is no cost to transfer the points!!! Marriott will fax you a form to fill out and sign to do the point transfer!!! Then you send the signed form back to Marriott. In my experience it only take a few day for the transfer to take place!
You can transfer your points to your legal spouse or domestic partner at time of reward redemption provided he or she is also a Marriott Rewards member. To transfer points, contact Marriott Rewards Customer Support at 1-801-468-4000. Further information, and Terms & Conditions regarding the transfer of points, can be found here: http://www.marriott.com/rewards/usepoints/tranpurc.mi#transfer. I hope this helps!
That's an excellent idea jasper100 and I've thought of doing that and closing her account since we rarely use it, but keep it open just in case she travels alone someplace at least she'll get some Gold benefits.
