Courtyard "Pay more get less"

Have a meeting and need to stay at a Courtyard next two nights.  The anticipation has really got me thinking about how much Courtyard sucks for elite members.  I am life time Platinum and really try to avoid staying at CY.  Last week I stayed at a Hampton  Inn even though it cost more than the CY down the street.  I am gold at Hilton but usually prefer Marriott brands except CY.   Hampton Inn had a better room, better service and I was running late but could grab a free coffe and a bagged breakfast on my way to the car.   At CY they  never upgrade you, They don't have a lounge, they don't offer free breakfast or even free coffe to Platinum members yet their rates are usually as high or higher then other Marriott Brands.  I would prefer, Marriott, Residence Inn, Fairfield or even Town Place over CY.  Now I have to admit that when I travel for work I am on per diem so I like the free stuff but if I were on an expense account I would prefer either the added service of room service or a full service restaraunt or the speed of the club lounge or Fairfield style buffet.   At CYthey combine the incovience of having to wait in line in the morning with high priced mediocre food.  Am I crazy or Are they really trying to encourage  elite members stay elsewhere.  Are there others who feel as I do? Or am I missing something about the CY value proposition.

I agree with you that Courtyard really does not offer much, especially to Gold & Platinum members.  When I travel on business, typically I am staying at Residence Inn (which is often cheaper than Courtyard) or occasionally at a FS Marriott when the price is reasonable.

Personal travel I avoid Courtyard except at the one near Logan Airport in Boston as they offer the park & ride package which allows for a good night sleep before I travel for a week or more.....

I understand from others that post items here that Courtyard brand does well for Marriott, so I imagine from a business perspective there is no incentive for them to change their model.

I have had good CY experiences so far but there are several CY negative comments that sure raise the hair on my neck so I will be watching out.

I used to stay at CY more than any other chain.

Over the years, many factors drove me away and I rarely stay at CY any more, for most of the same reasons that so many "insiders" shun  CY.  Of my past 40 nights with  Marriott, I stayed in 1 CY.

I totally agree.. I try to avoid Courtyard as well. Worst thing about it is its bistro. I have stayed in over 5 different CYs and all have very slow service for not so cheap b/f

CY is not friendly to elites..I try to avoid when possible..And CY really does not upgrade even when they have rooms available to upgrade you to..I agree Hampton Inn is a much better choice if available!

Thanks. I have stayed occasionally at HIs and have found them as nice but the latest one in Denver was under renovation which detracted significantly from the experience and value.
