Having not been to Puerto Vallarta -- my question is - is it more economical to get the all inclusive package (with all the meals)? Or is it easy and cheaper to just visit the other restaurants/resorts around the area for meals? Looking at Google Maps, there seems to be a lot of options, but not sure how "walkable" they are, and if it'll be more expensive going that route.
This is the perfect kind of question to ask of the forum, and I don't doubt that other folks in the community will see this and begin to share recommendations and insights.
When you look around on Google maps, are you seeing lots of variety or a bunch of the same kinds of places?
It really comes down to preference. Many years ago we did PV without the all-inclusive pkg and I found much of our time was spent trying to find/deciding where to eat! If you plan on being away from your hotel all day then all-inclusive may not be for you however if you plan on spending daily beach/pool time then all-in is the way to go. We usually go outside the resort a few times and eat at local establishments for a change of pace. Honestly you would not believe the amount of time you will spend with "I don't know where do you want to eat....." conundrum.
Of course if you are travelling alone then a la carte may be the way to go.
PVR has excellent dining spots whether downtown or in Marina Vallarta which is almost directly across the street from the Puerto Vallarta Hotels | CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta.
Most food in the area is very very good and reasonably priced from what I found last December when last in PVR.
Where are you staying?
