    Kathy,

If you stay downtown, there are two full-service Marriott's that are both very nice. Both are near Temple Square, City Creek Mall and the TRAX light rail line.  You can also stay at the University Marriott which is near the zoo and natural history museum.  Depending on your schedule and transportation, you an buy an all-day pass on the great transit system.. If are bringing your family or several friends, you can buy an all-day rail pass at the FrontRunner station which is accessible via TRAX (see below) for $15.  FrontRunner will take you all the way from Provo up to Ogden, UT.  Even if you have your own car, the view from the train is remarkable.  Across the street from the City Creek Marriott, the Salt Lake Visitors Center provides a wonderful resource for destinations in Salt Lake and surrounding areas.  If you have children with you, there is a great dinosaur museum and discovery museum at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, about 25 miles south of Salt Lake City.  There is also a nice aquarium in Draper, which is about 18 miles south of Salt Lake City.  If you are into mountain bike riding, there are many off-road and paved trails, especially in Draper.

The UTA Group Pass allows four riders, of all ages, to travel together on FrontRunner, TRAX, Streetcar and local bus. This pass is available for purchase at FrontRunner ticket vending machines, online, and at Customer Service centers. A group pass must be purchased in advance for trips beginning on a bus. The bus operator will then validate the pass for the date of service. If your group is starting their trip on Streetcar, TRAX or FrontRunner, group passes must be purchased from vending machines on the platform on the day your group is traveling. This pass will be validated by the FrontRunner and TRAX ticket vending machines and will expire the day of purchase. Effective January 29, 2014, the Group Pass is valid starting at 8:30 am and expires at the end of the day of purchase (12:00 am midnight).

If you are in Salt Lake on July 24, there are lots of activities to celebrate Pioneer Day in Salt Lake City, including a parade and marathon in downtown Salt Lake City.

Another option is Park City, only 20 minutes from Downtown SLC and 10-15 degrees cooler in the summer! They have 2 Vacation clubs, 1 on historic main street. also a full service Marriott that has recently been renovated, still a little dated.
