Los Suenos Marriott Resort in Costa Rica

I stayed at Los Suenos from September 5th to September 10th. The ride to the hotel was 1hr and 45 minutes. I wouldn't recommend renting a car (if first time) because the roads are very narrow once you get off the main highway.  Once you get on the mountain, the road becomes very curvy and there aren't any barriers keeping you from driving off the mountain. If you insist on renting a car, I would make sure to arrive in the daylight hours because it is pitch black on the mountain. You can't see where the road ends. They do have signs at every turn for the resort. We reserved a car (SUV) service that picked us up from the airport for $100.00. If you take the shuttle, that will run you $120.00.

When you arrive in Costa Rica, don't exchange your money at the airport. You won't get a good rate. We exchanged it at the airport for $532 (Colones) per $1 (U.S.). When we got to the hotel, it was $580 (Colones) per $1 (U.S.).

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. From a rating scale of 1 to 10. I give it a 10+. The staff were very friendly. The room (1bedroom suite/ocean view) was great. I'm a platinum member and they gave me an upgrade without me having to ask. The pool is huge. Its broken up into sections but its one pool. You can get to any section via the pool.  You don't have to get out to get to another section. Very cool. The food at the pool bar was pretty good. The drinks were average price ($7) and had enough liquor in it that you could actually taste it. My suggestion is to buy liquor at the Duty Free when you land in Costa Rica. You will save alot of money on the liquor when you get to the hotel. The only time we purchased alcohol was when we were at pool side. Other than that, we had liquor in our room.

The food at the restaurants were good and the prices reflected in the menu are in colones (Costa Rica currency). The buffet prices, especially for breakfast, were pricey ($25) but that didn't matter to me because I don't eat much so it was better for me to order from the menu.

The spa was beautiful.  They charge $10 a day if you want to use the sauna, steam room or jacuzzi. The gym was descent and it was located in the spa.

The casino was small but I'm not a gambler so I only went in once to check it out.  They have a golf course on the property. We went out into town, one night, and the strip had some restaurants, bars and a gentlemen's club.

We did two excursions, ATV and Zip Lining (Canopy). We didn't go through the resort for these but they will call around for you to get what you are looking for. We got a package deal (through AXR) where we went Zip Lining for approximately 2hrs and then ATV for another 2 hrs. This came out to $99 per person. It was well worth it. We had a blast. The ATV guide took us to the very top of the mountain and the view was gorgeous.

I normally stay at all-inclusive resorts but I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. We didn't spend much on food and drinks ($500) and we got the airline tickets for cheap ($544 for two tickets) at www.cheaptickets.com. I'm definitely going back.

Hi Millie ~  Could I ask you the name of the SUV service you used?  Did you get them via the hotel?  We are going to the resort next month and need to secure transport for the airport to Los Suenos.  Thanks!

What time of year did you go? We're thinking of going there in June. Thanks!

We're going to Costa Rica in November for our Honneymoon.  We just booked are plane tickets, hotels still need to be booked.  The best time to go there would be from December to April.  In November we could still have some showers as this is the end of the rainy season.

Thanks for your complete review of the hotel!

Do you know if this hotel has rooms with jacuzzi on the terraces?  I find it really hard to search on the marriott website or I just didn't yet found how to do it.
