I was looking at a hotel in Hawaii, but was surprised to find out that they dont offer Golds concierge lounge access or free breakfast.
It seems to be the policy at all the resorts which is unfortunate.
Has anyone had any luck getting a free breakfast at the Wakiki resort?
Sorry but resorts are not places where there are Concierge Lounges--they are walled off as it were and specifically exempted from many benefits. See the Marriott Rewards fine print for examples.
Ironically, some of the smaller Marriott hotels (Annapolis, Monterey CA) are considered resorts even though they lack the standard resort size and amenities that we come to expect at resorts in the system.
TJC -- Although a nice property, I'm sure, I don't think Marriott considers "Wentworth by the Sea, A Marriott Hotel & Spa" a resort, thus they have a C-lounge and weekend breakfast vouchers for platinum. I have, however, received comp breakfast, both weekdays and weekends, at the following resorts: Eden Roc, Miami Beach; Doral, Miami; and JW Desert Ridge, Phoenix. As suggested on this board...sometimes you just have to ask.
Our experiences at the Wentworth by the Sea have been nothing short of exceptional. We spent the Memorial Day holiday at the Little Harbor Marina Suites at the Wentworth by the Sea. There are 18 of these 1 and 2 bedroom villa-type accomodations. They actually exceed the offerings at Marriott Vacation Clubs which are Category 5, 6 and 7 hotels. With fully-equipped kitchens, washer/dryers, master bedroom suites with jacuzzi tubs and separate showers and a fully operational marina for ocean-worthy yachts and sailboats, the Wentworth by the Sea is the only Marriott Category 6 hotel in all of New Hampshire and the only full service Marriott in the entire state.
A number of factors contribute to the confusion about the 'resort' designation. First and foremost is the full service spa offering which distinguishes the Wentworth historically as a resort as described at the hotel's website: http://www.wentworth.com/about/wentworth-history.aspx. The good folks at the Platinum Elite line incorrectly refer to the Wentworth as a resort and were surprised upon confirming that the Wentworth offers a Concierge Lounge. Last but not least, the Wentworth breaks the mold of Marriott's full service hotels by offering FREE broadband/internet access. Only Marriott Vacation Club resorts and limited service brands offer free internet.
Refreshing to hear that this property exceeds the brand standard--let's hope they can continue to do this. Corporate sometimes takes on outliers and makes them conform to a level of service. Is this a franchise? Many have independence but need to conform to Marriott policy to keep the name.
