My wife and I stayed at Marriott County Hall in December of 2007 on points - for a week.
I emailed the hotel prior to our arrival, telling them how we were looking forward to staying in their hotel. They promised me a "well appointed" room. We were not disappointed.
The room we had was far from the elevators, but it was on the sixth floor and had a view of both the London Eye and the Thames. It was not directly overlooking the Thames, but near enough. We loved the room and certainly did not experience any difficulties using points. It was, in fact, my first Marriott rewards redemption - so I can't compare it to other redemptions.
We also stayed a night in the Marriott in Kensington - and it was nice as well, but of course there was $500 missing from my bank account for just the one night. (For those who have criticized the concierge lounge in the County Hall Marriott, I hope you were not comparing it to the one in Kensington, because it wasn't very fancy)
We never saw a single laundromat the entire time we were at Marriott County Hall. We had expected to wash clothes at the Courtyard in Munich, but it was not to be - cleverly worded web pages make you think that it is a self serve laundry when it is not. Returning to London and staying one night in the Marriott Kensington area, it was right across from a supermarket and I saw four laundromats!
We'll be back at that County Hall though - have a good time and please let me know if you find a laundromat nearby.
I'm glad to hear you had a good trip and thank you for replying.
I too hope to visit these properties again. I may have a wedding to go to in Munich next spring and am seriously considering the main Marriott there instead of the Courtyard - not because there is anything wrong with the Courtyard, but I hope to hit Gold status by next year.
Thanks for the information.
Have stayed at the other properties and really enjoyed them, but will try the CY.
Can't get enough of the food block off of Marionplatzt! Would fly to Munich just to have a hot dog at Lechem Bisson, see picture!
Aaaaaah, the stalls at Viktualienmarkt!!! Aren't they a wonderful place to have a wurst, a beer, and a brezen? Loved that place!
The full service Marriott looks very, very nice! The CY isn't nearly as luxurious (still very clean, comfortable, and nice) but it was better situated for my needs... lots of siteseeing and fun between the Alstadt and Oktoberfest! And, they even carried a brand of wine with my family's surname... quite a surprise since it isn't a very common name (at least, here in the US)!
As always, love your pics! Unfortunately, when I was there, they were working on the Glockenspiel so I have some chicken wire in my pics of it!
The Ren. is Munich is nicer than the Marriott, with rooms that are much larger. The tube travel is easy for both as they are very close to each other.
I would NOT recommend staying at the Munich Airport Marriott. Not worth the trouble and really nothing to do at that property.
Enjoyed your pictures, so keep them coming.
