Memorial Day unofficially kicks off summer and to celebrate the holiday this year, we extended a business trip into a long weekend getaway at one of our all time New England favorites, New Hampshire's Portsmouth Seacoast. Located between Newburyport, Massachusetts and Kittery, Maine, the Portsmouth Seacoast is a continuous stretch of coastline where New Hampshire meets the Atlantic Ocean. The scenic Ocean Boulevard/Route 1A runs along the entire length of the Seacoast and is setback from stretches of sandy beach including but not limited to Hampton Beach on the south end to Willis Sands Beach on the north end.

If you love fresh seafood, there's no shortage of New England clam chowder, haddock, whole belly clams, steamers and twin lobster specials. From most restaurants along Ocean Boulevard in Hampton Beach you can dine overlooking the water, the beach and the street life. It's classic Americana fusing the beach and the boardwalk with rows of shops, eateries and fresh sea air. In the evening, listen to a concert at the Hampton Beach band shell or enjoy the fireworks.

Tucked away on scenic Route 1B is the hidden gem of New England, Marriott's Wentworth-by-the-Sea Resort & Spa. For a romantic get-a-way, the Wentworth-by-the-Sea Little Harbor Suites is a MUST TRY. Featuring one or two bedrooms on a bi-level, each suite has a living/dining room and fully equipped kitchen with half bath and W/D at the entry level. On the second level are the bedrooms with jacuzzi, walk-in shower and a balcony overlooking the Wentworth-by-the-Sea Marina and pool - one of 3 at the Wentworth. Simply unforgettable.

If you're weary of I-95, need a bio break or just looking to enjoy some sightseeing, take scenic Route 1A and visit Historic Newburyport, MA which is just south of the Portsmouth Seacoast.
Like Portsmouth to the North, Newburyport started as a center for fishing, shipbuilding and trade during it's early days in the 16th century. With it's strong maritime traditions as a seaport and roots in search and rescue, Newburyport developed what later became the United States Coast Guard.

If you're sightseeing along the Portsmouth Seacoast you will not want to miss the 9th Annual Hampton Beach Master Sand Sculpting Competition. Hosted by the Hampton Beach Village District of New Hampshire, this event is a joint effort of the entire Hampton Beach community and takes place June 13 - 28th this year. Here are just a few of the amazing award-winning sand sculptures this year. All sand sculptures are lighted for night viewing through June 28th. For more information about sand sculptures, summer events, sightseeing and activities for kids visit www.hamptonbeach.org
Marriott has several properties located within a half-hour to an hour of Hampton Beach. The Portsmouth Seacoast is easily accessible from I-95, take Route 101 East or take Route 1A North in northeastern Massachusetts. The area is served by airports in Boston and Manchester.
Great pictures of the NH seacoast, and mention of nearby Maine destinations!
