we have stayed there twice for at least two weeks each time. great resort. prices outside the resort are quite reasonable, almost cheap. inside marriott, prices are expensive and just like in the USA. Massages on the beach are cheap, and they will even go to your room.
Only problem is the uprisings - both times we have been there, there have been major problems - the last time, the airports were closed and we had to take a taxi for 6 up to bangkok - 12 hours and $800 later, to get back home.
with the exception of the politics, the place is a great vacation spot
I own at the marriott Custom House in Boston. I have exchanged to many of the MVCI properties, and have found Phucket to be the best. The Thia people are the friendliest and resepctful. The villas at the property are large, and have a tropical setting. Because it is part of the JW Marriott, you have the use of the restaurants and spas. The infinity pool is a signature of the JW name, and everything surrounds a waterfire pool that looks great at night. I also enjoyed looking out at the ocean at night. Usually it is pitch black, but at that location, you see the squid boats fishing at night along the horizon with their lights on to attract the fish. It gives an added atmosphere. We took a speed boat ride for the day to PHI PHI island, where the movie The Island was filmed. There was great snorkling everywhere. Even though the resort is on the north end of the island, it is close to the airport, and there is a lot to see and do in the area. We spent a week there, and wish it were longer.
Been there 3 times and it is our family's favorite resort. The property is beautiful, the beach is pristine, but the staff has to be the best there is. We hope to go back next Thanksgiving.
