I hear you about the so-called "Green Initiative," but I think it's one more reduction to save money being "sold" as something else. If the "Greenies" get excited about it all the better. It's amazing how cutting things can be sold as some sort of "advantage" to us. The hotel is going to have Internet for a whole lot of reasons. Providing FREE access to Platinum would be a notable perk. If it can be FREE in Courtyard and Fairfield (and a growing number of Marriott competitors), it should have minimal impact. If fact, I might actually start staying at full-service Marriotts again! If you hink about it there really aren't any Platinum-only perks anyway.
You make a valid point. Slashing costs to save money doesn't have to be 'sold' as something else. Based upon Bill Marriott's blog, I don't think Marriott spins it that way at all.* How the news media spins it is an entirely different story. Marriott has already implemented complimentary newspaper delivery preferences to "Additional Preferences." As a perk for Platinum Elite, maybe the next hurdle is to add preferences for complimentary Internet access:
