Ok, I hate that Marriott changed the categories for their hotels, adding more categories than the "5" they had before. So now the free awards certificates they give you for a free night means you don't get to stay at the resorts anymore. They have been bumped up to just out of reach "6's"; now, the Holiday Inn-type hotels are the "top" of the categories, like Courtyard, Fairfield Inns...that really is cheesy of the company. We used to be able to stay in Palm Desert at the Desert SPrings Marriott, Renaissance Esmeralda..now reduced to Courtyards! Are there ANY NICE category 5 hotels/resorts out there anymore that we can stay at (California) that aren't the upscale Holiday Inns? Anyone know? THanks!
