The Renaissance at 1 West Wacker dr. is where I stayed for a week. Its one block from Michigan Ave. (Shopping). If you are flying in you can take the "L" from the airport right to the hotel. You can also pick up a four day pass for the L about two blocks from the hotel. This hotel is right on the Chicago river. Because the L ihas a stop right at the hotel it makes it a snap to get to the Cubs game or anywhere in the city.
Across the river is a great steak place, Smith & Wollensky's! Likewise, Harry Carey's is a close walk across the river as well.
This is my favorite place to stay for Cubs games and letting my wife shop.
Going to WaterTower Place and getting my ice cream at Ghiradelli's.
The Ren. on the River is the place.
I have stayed at the Rennaisance on Wacker and the Marriott Downtown and love them both. The Downtown is right next to a mall for Mrs. jhawk and has a great martini bar! If you do stay there ask for a high floor overlooking Michigan Ave. and you will most likely have a view of Lake Michigan.
If you decide on the Rennaisance, ask for a room overlooking the river and facing the lake. Good food here and lots of places to eat.
Another choice for dinner is Harry Carey's - a tourist trap with great food and lots of baseball history on the walls.
