I noticed that Marriott has 3 properties in Maui. I have seen great reviews about Wailea but haven't heard much about the Maui Ocean Club -Lahaina and Napili Vilas. What was weird is that Wailea cost less per night but required more Marriott Points.....
My family spent a week at Marriott's Kauai Beach Club in 1998 followed by 5 days at Marriott's Maui Ocean Club. This was pre-construction of the Lahaina and Napili Villas. All 3 areclustered in northwest Maui steps away from the tranquil blue ocean waters of Ka'anapali Beach. We stayed in a2 bedroom/3 bath suite with a separate living room and kitchenette, but spent almost every moment at the beach during the day and spent the evening off roading and exploring Maui.
The town of Wailea is upbeat with boutiques, restaurants and a shopping mall. From the airport at Kapalua, you have to pass Wailea to get to Ka'anapali. I've not stayed at the Wailea Resort and don't recall if it was even built in 1998 or later.
What was most memorable about Ka'anapali Beach were the sunsets. Imagine spending the entire day at the beach and watching the sunset framed between two volcanic islandsgently rising out of the ocean,Molokai to the north and Lanai to the southwest. Our family vacation at the Maui Ocean Club was unforgetable.
