Interval Exchange Hilton Head/Myrtle Beach

I can say I'm pretty dissapointed with the Exchange power @ Marriott/Interval.  Bought into a platnium season (oceanfront) at the Hilton Head Grande Ocean two years ago and was told it had excellent trading power.  I've been on an exchange request for over three months now, trying to exchange into the Grande Dunes @ Myrtle Beach for any week in July or August.  No sucess yet.  check the marriott website, and you can pay for the week anyway.  What's the sense?  Has anyone had difficulty exchanging this year?

    NJbeachgoer:

Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort and Spa at Grande Dunes is not a  timeshare.  Are you thinking of Marriott's OceanWatch Villas at Grande Dunes?

The exchange process is complex, there is a learning curve that took 10 years to master.  Interval does not control inventory, they depend on owner deposits.  With 70% now trading weeks for points, and 10% choosing to occupy, there's less weeks on deposit. There's also rentals and construction to consider.

Don't be discouraged, here are four options to increase your leverage:

    1. Call the Marriott Desk at Interval International at 1-800-622-1747.  They are eager to assist.  I requested the coveted WEEK 52 at Boston Custom House and got it in less than 12 hours.

    2. Explore the Bring a Friend Package.  OceanWatch is expanding, so Sales is very active.  Call 843-692-5613 for more information.

    3. If you need more nights, ask Sales or the Gold Elite desk for owner rates and whether or not you can redeem points.

    4. By default, owners are given FIRST priority. With Gold Elite and MVCI Owner status, you have priority 5 status, work it.**  Good luck!

    ** Priority per MVCI.com

    1. OceanWatch Owner on home usage occupancy– contiguous stay (consecutive or concurrent stay) With like requests, owners with the highest # of owned home unit weeks receive priority; then those with the highest # of owned MVCI unit weeks
    2. OceanWatch Owner on home usage occupancy– single week stay. With like requests, owners with the highest # of owned home unit weeks receive priority. Then those with the highest # of owned MVCI unit weeks.
    3. OceanWatch Owner Exchanging Back into OceanWatch– contiguous stay (consecutive of concurrent stay). With like requests, owners with the highest # of owned home unit weeks receive priority. Then those with the highest # of owned MVCI unit weeks.
    4. OceanWatch Owner Exchanging Back into OceanWatch– single week stay. With like requests, owners with the highest # of owned home unit weeks receive priority. Then those with the highest # of owned MVCI unit weeks
    5. MVCI Owner Exchange – contiguous stay (consecutive or concurrent stay). With like requests, owners with the highest # of owned home unit weeks receive priority. Then those with the highest # of owned MVCI unit weeks
    6. MVCI Owner Exchange – single week stay. With like requests, owners with the highest # of owned home unit weeks receive priority. Then those with the highest # of owned MVCI unit weeks
    7. Elite Renter or Marriott Rewards Certificate stay – Marriott Reward Elite Status, Platinum, Gold, Silver
    8. Preview Rental Guest Reservations
    9. Rental (with no Marriott Rewards elite status)
    10. Interval International External Exchange

(For each location tag, you will be guided through a 3-step process to add (1) a city and a state or a city and a country, (2) a Marriott brand, and (3) a Marriott hotel.)
