My husband and I want to go to Hawaii next February and use my Marriott reward points.  We definitely want to go to Maui but think as long as we are there, we should go to some of the other islands.  Any suggestions?

We did a two week vacation spanning Oahu, Maui and Kauai using a combination of points plus an exchange on our Marriott timeshare villa. For Insider reviews on Kauai, see: Re: Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club in Lihue - Kauai, Hawaii. For Oahu, see:  Re: Hawaii Advice

    Have fun!

As a first time visiter to Hawaii in 2008 -- here's what we'd recommend to do and avoid...

Island hop to Oahu. There's sooo much to do/see and if you're active and adventureous -- you can see the top sites in one day. Book the 1st flight in and the last flight out will allow you to explore the island. On Oahu -- DO: 1) drive to the north shore & watch locals surf @ the Bonzai pipeline 2) hike to the top of Diamond Head (even if you have to stop 20 times...it's worth it!) 3) walk Waikiki beach during the day and at sunset 4) visit Pearl Harbour (and don't skip the tour) 5) rent a jeep! DON'T: Pay the price for the Polynesian Cultural Centre...although it's lovely -- it could take a full day to see it all and frankly - -it's not worth the admission price if you have a resort that has luau's and local entertainment. On Maui....DO: 1) drive to Haleakala...and make the effort to do it to see the sunrise -- there's nothing like it!!! 2) Take the road to Hana (get the CD package to help you with your tour). While on the road-- alot of people skip the lava tube pit stop because it has a cost for entry -- but pay the $$$ -- it's totally worth it! 3) Have lunch at the Hana Hotel (one of the few places you'll see cows)...food is great and scenery is better 4) Drive to Lahaina and spend a few hours exploring the town. Cheeseburger in Paradise is on the main road and a great place to grab a bite on the water. 5) Have dinner at the Humahumanukanukaapoa'a @ the Grand Wailea before sunset. It's expensive...but has great food and even better scenery. make sure to stop at the local craft table on your way out...every thing is made by hand and the lady is a lovely native Hawaiian. 6) Drive to the beach that is known for windsurfing...it's something to see. Also -- there are some beaches on the islands where tourists are not welcomed -- (JAWS is one of them)...so beware. 7) Golf @ one of the Wailea courses (we played Wailea Blue). If you're a golfer -- you'll never forget your round. 8) Take a heli-tour...worth every cent you have to spend....but if you can afford it on the same trip...fly to the big island and take one over the volcanos...we ran out of time...but will return in a few years to do that ourselves. 9) Go to a good luau -- there are lots ot choose from...but Lahaina has one of the best public ones. Enjoy your trip. Hawaii is paradise...nothing will ever compare to it in my eyes....

Could not agree with you more.  Give me Oahu.

We had such a great time at the Ren. and just sitting by the pool and reading.

The shopping center was a close walk and very nice.

    Mahalo!
