Greetings Marriot Fans - wanted to get your opinions and words of wisdom regarding the Virgin Islands. My husband and I are travelling there for the first time - couple of questions... is a car necessary? What are your favourite restaurants, things to do, hidden treasures and off the beaten path cultural expriences, etc? We're avid Curacao vacationers and figured we go somewhere different this year. Appreciate your comments, suggestions, ideas?
Where in the Virgin Islands are you traveling? My wife and I go to St. Thomas and a car isn't mandatory but gives you more freedom to explore. The next comments are based on staying in St. Thomas. If you want to explore on your own on the island and take the ferry ride to St. John, I recommend getting a car. Really, I recommend a jeep or four wheeled drive vehicle. There are some places on St. John that a typical car isn't going to make it. The restaurants we like are the Banana Tree Grille,Mafolie Restaurant (great romantic view), and Old Stone Farmhousear, If you want to get a great tour contact Ali and Sons. Ali is one of the best tour guides I have had on a vacation and show you the hidden gems on the island.
