Planning on getting married in June 2009 and wanted to know what would be a better choice for a wedding (just the two of us) and honeymoon...Aruba or Hawaii
We are using Marriott Rewards points for our stay.
We are active so we would like locations where there is plenty to do.
Aruba hands down! I've been to Honolulu and Maui in Hawaii as well as Aruba. Don't get me wrong, Hawaii is a beautiful, but Aruba wins hands down.
Hawaii in my opinion is much more expensive and the Marriott points are much more expensive.
- Cheaper hotels, food, flights (depending on your location), - - Safe, locals are extremely friendly
- Water is drinkable as well!
- There are a couple of Marriotts there and the ones on the South end allows you access to a private island!!
- The dining there is excellent
- Many many many things to do and much cheaper than Hawaii
If you do decide to go, shoot me an email, I'll send you all the places we went to.
I have stayed at the Marriott Surf Club (Aruba) and own at the Maui Ocean Clulb and Ko Olina in Oahu. Aruba is beautiful but there really isn't much to do other than lay around on the beach/ pool or gamble at the casinos. Aruba is very windy most days which is great for windsurfers, stinks for golf or sand in your face.
I would recommend Maui as you have old Lahaina town, Hana, Crater bike rides, Pineapple wine vineyards, killer beachs and whale watching.
Ko Olina is also nice, best time is the end of Jan or near Pro Bowl. Players stay at the JW Marriott in Ko Olina, we've stayed the week of pro-bowl and met many players in the past.
The great news you'll have a blast in any of these 3 places. Atleast they're not considering Toledo, that would make it simpler.
Hawai'i for sure. Aruba is nice, but Hawai'i just is paradise. Stay on the Big Island, Kauai or Maui. I would visit the north side of O'ahu and visit the PCC (Polynesian Culture Center) for the best of all of Polynesia.
You simply can't go wrong with Hawai'i AND the discounts right now are over 50% OFF!!!!!
As I am on the East coast, the travel time to Hawaii has been a factor and is too long for the typical 7 days that I take for vacation, I have always leaned toward Virgin Islands, Aruba and Grand Cayman Island for the 7 day trips. If I had greater than 10 days, then I would entertain Hawaii as a destination, but until than Aruba would always be my choice of the two. There is more than enough things to find there and many places to get lost on for a honeymoon.
In Aruba we stayed at the Renaissance on the Beach, upgraded the room to be 40 yards from the water, made reservations for a dinner for 2 on the beach (very nice dinner), they have a private island to relax on and you can rent the beach hut for the afternoon and get a couple's masage then watch the sunset, plenty of diving, plenty of sailing, sports fishing and find a resturant to cook it, casinos (won $600 dollars on less then $5 for slots), night clubs, island exploring, ostrich farm with good burgers following the tour, and lots more...... (oh yeah, everything (with the exception of the jeep rental a few meals off property) were paid for by Marriott points, (I used points for the rooms and $1000 gift cards)....
Congratulations and best wishes on your special day. As there is still a window of opportunity, do consider the recently announced 3 for 2 resort special, see: Hooray for Marriott Rewards? This offer includes participating resorts in Aruba and Hawaii making it possible to combine a honeymoon itinerary that includes a paid stay with nights redeemed using points.
Having been to Hawaii for the first time, I have to say Hawaii. I also love the Caribbean and certain towns in Florida or California.
If I were to go to Hawaii again (hope, hope) it would be Kauai. If you're looking for big city fun, go to Honolulu and stay at the Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa in Waikiki! If you like a quieter part of Oahu, visit the Ko Olina Marriott Vacation Club or JW Marriott there.
