As a platinum member, this upcoming rewards program change does not look like a good deal to me. The points required for a free hotel stay are now pretty comparable to what Hilton requires. However, even with Marriott going to a 50% bonus for Platinum members, Hilton still gives more points for a paid hotel stay with their double dipping program (10 base + 5 double dip + 50% bonus for diamond status per $1 spent). Also, Hilton offers these points at all Hilton brands, unlike Marriott that only offers 5 points per $1 spent at Residence Inns and Springhill Suites(?). It's also easier to obtain status quickly at Hilton. I only stayed 6 nights at Hilton using their Visa and I'm already at their gold level. Going forward, I'm not as inclined to stay at Marriott hotels.
