I've been a Marriott Rewards member for years and have been very happy with the program until about 1 year ago. I began to notice the Stay Anytime award level which penalized last minute decisions to stay. Then I noticed Reward Category changes for properties where I stayed frequently, meaning that it cost me more per night to stay at the same place. Other posts indicate that the overall points to stay are also increasing.
This is disappointing but frankly, it is consistent with what other "rewards" programs are doing. Credit card rewards half your points whenever they choose, airlines hike points to reserve flights at reasonable hours, and now our Marriott Rewards points are worth less. Sorry that Marriott has joined the inflation club.
