Has anyone ever done an all-Marriott Australian vacation trip? While I have friends in Queensland with whom I will stay when in country, there are so many other cities and sights that I'd like to see, including the major cities. Any help would be appreciated, especially on times for best weather and fewest crowds, etc.
Sydney Harbor - Circular Quay - is in a fabulous location to explore the more interesting parts of Sydney: walk to The Rocks, etc., go to the Opera, dine at Cafe Sydney, etc. If they're being nice to you, you can have a view of the bridge or the Opera House from your room - if not, see both from the concierge lounge.
Skip the Gold Coast one - it's off the beaten track, although convenient to the convention center, and the Gold Coast itself is a pass. Brisbane Marriott is in a good place, but not sure you want to be in Brisbane for very long unless you have to be - although in good weather, the arts area along the river is an interesting place. [Good thing you have friends in Queensland.] On second thought, there are some good day trips you can do from either Gold Coast or Brisbane, e.g., Lamington National Park.
Melbourne is a smallish hotel, right on the edge of the theater district, as well as Chinatown and Greek area - especially restaurants. It's a bit of a hike to the South Bank, where a lot of the cultural attractions are, but you're a block from the trolley line that circles the downtown area - and it's FREE! I don't know the manager, but s/he has done a great job of selecting friendly and competent staff - who really go out of their way for Platinum members.
