Concierge level

Does anyone know how to find out if there is a concierge level at a Marriott resort, and if it is comped to platinum members?  We were recently at the JW in Cancun and were not given access (we were only gold at that point) and are wondering about our upcoming January 2009 stay in Aruba (Renaissance Aruba Resort)

Normally (as a platinum member) they will give you a room on the Concierge floor if available. If not, your room key will still get you in.

(For each location tag, you will be guided through a 3-step process to add (1) a city and a state or a city and a country, (2) a Marriott brand, and (3) a Marriott hotel.)

We had the exact same problem at the same hotel.   Although we were told by reservations that we could be upgraded based on availability, when we got there the story was only if you are platinum. We were gold at the time as well.  It would be nice if they had a more uniform policy and we all new what to expect!

I've stayed at this hotel approx 8 times, have been Plat for years -and have always been told there is no Concierge level at the JW in Cancun.  No matter. Great hotel and wonderful employees.

There is a concierge level but you are not given access to it unless you are staying on that level.  it is not just a room but a whole section that is upgraded. You have to pay for the upgrade to stay there and will not atomatically get upgraded unless you are platinum.

The "concierge" level in both the Cancun JW and, now, in the Aruba Marriott are branded differently than other concierge levels at other Marriotts I've seen, not just billed as regular concierge levels (Cancun calls theirs "Club 91", Aruba just opened theirs recently or is getting ready to, after their renovations).  They charge about $100 per night more for these rooms if you are paying, as opposed to maybe $30 per night in a regular hotel.  Would be a great perk though if they did upgrade!
