We're going to wine country in November and hoping for some reccomendations on the hotels. The Renaissance/Lodge at Sonoma looks nice. Anyone stay there? Looks like there is also a Marriott in Napa. We'll only spend one day at the wineries, the balance of the time will be r&r!!
Also, any reccomendations on wineries? Thanks!!!
We stayed at the Renaissance Lodge in Sonoma Labor Day weekend 2007. Other than some check in problems, the stay was great. We had a cottage room with an awesome bathtub! We spent part of one day at the spa there...was my husband's first time at a spa and he loved it. We highly recommend the hydrotherapy baths before a massage. As for Sonoma vs Napa...I vote for Sonoma. A little less crowded in the wineries and on the roads. On the wineries, I suggest that you visit more of the smaller family owned wineries. You get much more individualized attention and can find some good wines that are only sold at the winery. We loved Blackstone...joined the wine club in fact. Had a fun time with the tasting there. We also recommend The Fig Cafe in Glen Ellen for brunch. And Saddles Steakhouse in Sonoma for dinner. Have fun!! Oh, and don't forget to buy a shipping container at one of the wineries that you can check as luggage. We checked 18 bottles that way.
