My wife & I are visiting Knoxville for the first time to visit our grand daughter. We are interested in things to do & see there: good local restaurants, live theater productions, southern style cooking, historical parts of the city, and any other recommendations.
Straddling the Tennesse River less than an hour west of the Great Smoky Mountains and the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, Knoxville is home to the University of Tennessee and the Sunsphere, a monument celebrating Knoxville's hosting of the 1982 Worlds Fair. Natural beauty, wonderful people and southern hospitality. The Knoxville Marriott overlooks the river, for great views ask for a room that faces east towards the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains. For mouth-watering BBQ, check out Calhoun's nearby. If you like to explore, try Asheville, North Carolina the home of the Vanderbilt Mansion. For local color, check out Cherokee, Boone and Gatlinburg. Have a great time.
