I just stayed a full week at the JW Grande Lakes last week, and I went to Universal for 2 of those days. The JW's resort fee is $30/day normally, but is decreased to $25/day for Platinum. I'm not sure if it's decreased for Silver or Gold.

The resort fee included the shuttle service to Universal, Disney, or SeaWorld each day.  I don't remember the specific schedules (and it probably varies at different times of year), but there were 3 or 4 shuttle times available each direction for each park, generally with 1 shuttle prior to opening and the others throughout the rest of the morning.  For the return trip, we took a taxi one day from Universal, because we just missed the 7PM shuttle, and we didn't want to wait until the next option at 9PM.  The taxi was about $30 including tip, so the resort fee is worth it if even just used for the shuttle.

The shuttle is contracted out to a third party - Town & Country - but we had good luck with them most days. There was day coming from Disney when the shuttle arrived a bit later (~15 minutes, but it was cold and felt longer) than we'd been told, but overall it worked out well. Be sure to get the space number where the shuttle will be for pickup. Our first day at Universal, the driver dropped us off at the taxi stand rather than their assigned parking space (he was trying to get the 4 passengers in our shuttle ahead of a giant tour bus unloading), and at the end of the day we were unclear about where to find the shuttle.

The shuttles do need to be booked at least by the night before you plan to use it and can be booked at the Expedia desk in the concierge office.  The Expedia desk closes at 10PM, so if you're getting in late, you may need to call ahead to reserve the shuttle for your first day.

I hope that helps. Feel free to let me know if you have other questions, especially while it's still fresh in my mind.

We love Grande Lakes. Universal usually has a deal online-pay for 2 days get 3rd free. We love Universal as well. Add park hopping and express pass. Really adds to the experience.

Have a great time. Enjoy the pool at GL. Its awesome!

Grande Lakes is a fabulous property.  The staff is outstanding and they cater to everyone's needs.  Make sure to go to Highball and Harvest restaurant on the Ritz Carlton side of property, it's great!!  Spa is nice too.
