Portland Marriott City Center vs. Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront

I am planning a trip to Portland and am looking for Marriott patrons who are familiar with these two properties.  Trying to determine which one I should book for a week-long stay.  Any insight is appreciated.

Waterfront is nice to walk over to the waterfront and visit restaurants and shops.

City Center is walking distance to downtown stores.  Either one is serviced by bus system.

Loved the Marriott Downtown Waterfront, excellent service, location; their concierge lounge had snacks throughout the day. Got a beautiful corner room, their restaurants are excellent; besides the view and walking by the river where there are some restaurants and shops left me a feeling of a beautiful place to remember. Don't miss a Blazer's game!

The Waterfront hotel is much more attractive, hands down, with great access to the riverfront park.  On the other hand, when you step out the door of the City Center, you truly are in the middle of the city.  Its really a matter of preference--the are both nice.

    Waterfront for sure!

Unless you just want to walk out into the "center of the city"

Downtown is the way to go!

The walking feels so great and the food choices are so special.

    Can't wait to go back

I can only speak to the City Center Marriott, as we've stayed there several times.  It's very nice, staff is great, always clean.  It's nice to be right downtown in the heart of things.  But, at times it feels a little crowded and closed in, mainly because it's downtown..

If you're driving, it's a pain to have valet parking only but you'll find that at most downtown hotels.

Overall, we would still stay there every time, although we do like the Residence Inn in Portland when we have our kids.
