My fiancé and I are currently planning our honeymoon for the end of June 2015. We are looking at 7 nights and should be able to cover 5 with points. We think we have it narrowed down to three places: Aruba Marriott Stellaris, Frenchman's Reef, and Scrub Island. We would prefer to be in a low key environment, meaning we would like to mainly relax at the resort and on the beach. Would also like to do some exploring but prefer not to rent a car. Nightly entertainment would be a plus.
If you have been to any of these resorts would you recommend it for a honeymoon?
Also, if you would recommend another Marriott resort for a honeymoon over these three please do share. I will say up front that Hawaii is out. Too much money and travel time from the Northeast. Also out is St. Kitts as I am unable to use points.
Based on a lot of good Insider input, we went and had a great time in Aruba
it's probably worth a look. You could have plenty to do (or nothing ).
We preferred the beaches, but many also spoke highly of the Renaissance downtown with their private beach.
IAHFLYR can discuss the joys of Scrub Island
others can jump in on Frenchmen's Reef (which has more of a coin toss experience)
Best wishes for a terrific time wherever you end up.
Of your three choices, I've only been to Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino. You can't go wrong with that resort. It's got plenty of things to do there. You can go downtown by bus (just catch it outside of the hotel) or rent a taxi. There are a lot of activities to do while you are Aruba besides relaxing by the pool or on the beach. You won't be disappointed there.
Two years ago, I went on my honeymoon to Grand Cayman Island and stayed at the Marriott there. The hotel isn't as grand as the Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino, but you wouldn't be disappointed going there either. The hotel right now is going through some renovations or just completed renovations. We wanted a honeymoon where we could relax and do a few things. I had already been to Aruba and wanted to go somewhere we both hadn't been. When we weren't relaxing on the beach, we were able to walk to a few restaurants, go to the turtle farm, went on a snorkeling excursion, took a bus downtown for shopping and dining, and swam with the dolphins.
Good luck and let me know what you decide to do! Congratulations!
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I would agree with the previous posts that Aruba is the best choice of the three. I have stayed a few times at Frenchmen's Reef and it is a beautiful location. However, the beach is not that great, it's not easy to get to the downtown area, and St. Thomas is a cruise ship mecca. Therefore, everything seems to be based on the cruise ship schedules, and when several ships are in port, the mass of humanity is overwhelming.
Alternatively, take a look at the JW Marriott or the CasaMagna Marriott in Cancun. Fabulous pool area and spa for relaxing, great restaurants, active nightlife and a wonderful beach for long walks! All the best!
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.
My wife and I have visited Scrub Island twice and each time have found it to be the most relaxing trip we've taken. The pictures of the place are exactly how it looks, the resort associates are incredibly friendly, helpful, professional and happy. The views from Building 17 which is located out on the eastern tip of the resort are wonderful and the suites are elegantly decorated, clean, comfortable, quiet and with huge balconies overlooking the Caribbean and Marina.
You can be as active as you like with dive boats, fishing trips, renting your own boat to tour the BVI and U.S. Virgin Islands that are all easy to find (NOTE: If you want to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands from BVI bring your Passport with you those days) or you can simply hang around the resort enjoying the pool, honeymoon beach, North Beach or kayak around the waters between the islands. Want a day to shop take the Scrub Island Ferry back to Tortola and get a taxi into the towns.
Scrub Island is simple to get to as well. Fly into San Juan and take either Cape Air a nine seat C402 or Seaborne Airlines Saab 340 to Beef Island Airport (EIS) on Tortola. A few hundred yards walk or the Scrub Island SUV will take you to the dock where the ferry will take you to the resort.
The resort and location are so wonderful I can't recommend it enough. Here are some of the pictures we took on the trips.
I'd like to be able to tell you how nice the TV's are, but we didn't even turn them on during either trip if that tells you anything about simply enjoying the place and surroundings.
Should you want specific details feel free to message me and I'll see if I can be of help.
Keep us informed of your decision and enjoy regardless of your destination.
I appreciate the details and pictures you provided. It was a hard decision but we finally decided on Scrub Island. The resort looks wonderful. I think this remote little island is exactly what we are looking for. We also decided that we will spend 2 days total in San Juan, one on the front and one on the back end of the trip so we can take the short flight to Beef Island from there.
Thanks again for the recommendation!
Awesome news and thanks for the update. Please do let me know if you need any more information. You'll love the place and the BVI in general so take advantage of it and explore the neighboring islands, AND if you get a suite make sure to buy some stuff to cook a few meals to enjoy on the balcony.
I just saw where Scrub Island has point savers available if you were planning on using points for you honeymoon!! We used the point saver last January and then upgraded using cash to a 1 BR Suite in building 17, think it was 1724 or 1725 so you might look into this and see if it works for you. Reneika at the resort was extremely helpful in getting it all worked out.
