My fiancé and I are trying to book a honeymoon using Marriott Points (approx. 250k) during the month of September 2015. We were initially wanting to do an all-inclusive somewhere in the Caribbean, but upon realizing you cannot use points for an all-inclusive and that September is part of "hurricane season" in the Caribbean, we are now lost.
We are wanting to spend as little money out of pocket as possible, but are open to many ideas. We are interested in a relaxing, beach type of vacation.
Would anyone recommend using points towards a cruise? Or the 'Travel Packages'?
We would appreciate any advice!
If you like the mouse, Orlando and its parks are pretty deserted in September, and I think Disney does a very well respected food festival. There are lots of Marriott options in the area, and if you have any Starwood points, 2 Starwoods on site.
Alas,if you're looking for a travel package to provide both sufficient miles to fly and a hotel stay somewhere nice, 250k points is unlikely to swing it. 250k will get you 100,000 miles at many airlines and a 7 day Cat1-5 voucher for use worldwide. Unfortunately Cat1-5 hotels are not that luxurious, other than in the Red-Sea resorts in Egypt, and there's some nervousness about the stability in that area. The diving is however a blast!
I gather you want to be at the beach and use all inclusive from your post. You might have to drop the all inclusive and find some beach spots such as Southern California to avoid the Hurricane areas. Give us some other things beside beaches that you may want to spend time at during your honeymoon so we can gather more help from the Insiders gang.
Congrats on your upcoming wedding.
Yes, I realize all inclusives are not an option to use Marriott points, and yes we would prefer a beach. We considered doing California - does anyone have any recommendations?
We are also considering Aruba since it seems to be a safer bet.
Or we are also considering a cruise.

Depending on which island you are going to you may want to go again. I personally LOVE Maui and was recently to O'ahu. Maui is an amazing honeymoon spot and has a Marriott in Kihei. Kauai also has a CY. Certainly not steering you to go there but the islands are spectacular, don't have much tropical storm issues, and the food, activities, and aloha spirit are amazing.
Based on a lot of good Insider input, we went and had a great time in Aruba
it's probably worth a look. You could have plenty to do (or nothing ).
We preferred the beaches, but many also spoke highly of the Renaissance downtown with their private beach.
Best wishes for a terrific time wherever you end up.
Some wonderful properties we've stayed at even though not directly on the beach yet splendid places:
Have not stayed at this place, just stumbled upon it looking for stuff along the coast where we've stayed:
Another spot we've not yet stayed, but will next year and comes highly recommended by our very own pluto77 and others is Laguna Beach, CA Resorts | Resorts in Laguna Beach, California.
If you really want a relaxing spot away from the crowds back in the Caribbean you might look at British Virgin Islands Resorts | Scrub Island Resort | BVI Luxury Resort as the place is simply incredible. We've been there twice and have enjoyed it so very much, yet out of the hurricane season.
Some pictures from our trips there:
Two quick thoughts, which might be a little less obvious:
