I am new to this forum today. I have 47 nights and "temporary" gold status. First time achieving this status because I don't travel enough to get it each year. Do you know if the end of the calendar year is when Marriott stops counting points and nights stayed, or is January the cut off? If it's January I will make it to "official" gold status, but if it's December I will either have to find a cheap Marriott to stay a couple more nights in, or let my nights roll over. Thanks in advance for helping me with this question!
It sounds to me like you're on a "taste of gold" where you're given a couple of months or so to clock up 6 seperate stays, to be completed in your case by 31st January. As you already have 47 nights credited this year you effectively have 2 ways to retain gold status, either:
a) stay 3 more nights, however cheaply, between now and 31st December 2014; or
b) get to 6 stays ( note, stays, not nights) before 31st January. To find out how many more you need to make, count up your stays made since you were notified of the temporary upgrade.
Finally, I'm sorry to say, you'll not be rolling over any nights to next year, rollover only applies to nights in excess of your status at 31st December 2014, and since you'll still be gold on that date the only nights that will rollover will be those in excess of 50.
