Hearing the tales of exotic travel from californian
Learning all of the best food spots from the island king himself Mr. and Mrs. kharada46
Having an enjoyable hangout with vaboywnder and Matt (whose real name is easier for me to remember)
and now a marvelous morning with the Foxgloves.
Insider camaraderie at its best. As the Gershwin boys wrote, " They (The Man) can't take that away from me".
Keep on keepin' on Insiders.
erc It was an absolute delight to meet and greet you and Mrs. Erc. We appreciate your taking the time to make a side trip to the Classic City, and you're welcome any time. Next time perhaps we can treat y'all to some of the plentiful night life that Athens offers. Thanks again.
foxglove, I hope you'll be available when I get down that way. Tentatively looking at April 2015. Although I've already "collected" Clarke county, I've got quite a few places just north of there still on my list of counties to visit. When the time gets closer, I'll let you know.
It looks like erc had a wonderful visit. I particularly like his "six-pack abs."
bejacob Yeah, I knew from your map you'd already collected Clarke and surrounding counties, but definitely keep us informed as you firm-up your plans next year. April's a beautiful time of year for a visit 'round these parts. (There's a reason the Masters is held during April each year.) And there's plenty more Terrapin where erc's came from!
IAHFLYR I wish that were so. I gave up golf and took up biking 'cause nine times out of ten off the tee, unless it was a dog-leg right, you could kiss that ball goodbye. And the bike paid for itself in less than a year since I no longer had to buy a dozen Titleists a week.
foxglove you mean to tell me a man with your skills for grilling didn't hit the woods and neighborhoods to find Pro-V1's?
Great write up erc, love the 'double cannon" and remember I once blogged about it, as only the Americans with their unique innovative approach of the age would actually go ahead and make such a device a la "the double barrelled shotgun is better than the single…. sooooooo, look what 'ave made Jebediah!"
brightlybob Well, it sounded good in theory.
Robert Toombs, a UGA alumnus, member of the U.S. Congress, and staunch secessionist known as "the Fire-eater," declared in many a speech before the war that the South had nothing to fear from the Yankees, stating, "We can whip 'em with cornstalks!" After the war, someone who'd heard those speeches called him on his statement: "Look here, Toombs, didn't you tell us that we could whip those Yankees with cornstalks?!" "Yes, I did," replied Toombs. "But damn 'em--they wouldn't fight us that way!"
And so it goes.
you mention Lake Lanier. There used to be a Marriott with a golf course there that was pretty decent...both the hotel and course. Not sure what ever happened to that. But glad you had a great trip.
Thanks, yeah, I remember that (we used to drag inner tubes behind boats, back in the day).
I'm pretty sure it was the Pine Isle Resort (no longer there, like you said) and it hosted the Bilderberg Conference once.
Breaking news - Marriott, with the best margins in the industry and setting another stock price record today is just about to report earnings - expected to be above expectations (Starwood reported strong results earlier and Marriott is expected to top Starwood and Hilton). So, I guess we can expect more elite benefits now .
Keep on keepin' on Insiders, we're setting records .
Tubes behind boats, oh that brings back some long lost memories..so glad I sold the boat a few years ago as I'm far to old for that bone jarring blistering in the sun for hours and hours.
I see our Elite benefits growing leaps and bounds with Arne thanking all the Elites for putting Marriott on the top even if we are using other chains, VRBO, not traveling.....all while grabbing the new Elite benefit to be announced soon......FROZEN WAFFLES.
As I eliminate fun things that I used to be able to do (racquetball, volleyball, rock climbing, banging around at high speed behind a boat, even waterskiing, etc etc) I turn more and more to Insiders for ongoing ideas of lower impact activities (kayaking, biking, hiking, heights viewing, gondola riding, even strapped into a straitjacket zipriding, and of course eating and drinking etc etc - although, not quite ready for badge collecting ).
As for waffles, as Moses himself once said, "they'll have to pry the warm griddle waffles from my cold dead hands".
erc I think the number of views and comments on this thread validate your contention that blogs may gain more exposure when posted as discussions. I look forward to the short- and long-term solutions for blog access and exposure NathalieF Nathalie hinted at earlier this week. Thank you, sir, along with jakeal and others (whom I can't name off the top of my head), for leading the effort for reform.
Sounds and looks great erc! Though, with December just around the corner, I'm hoping for a repeat of this...
That was a great time, thanks for the wonderful hospitality. Next time I'm in Hawaii, they'll probably be more in the photo, as some kharada46 juniors will join us (hopefully they'll be in Little League and not driving us around ).
Give our best to the Mrs., remember to look us up when in the nation's capital, and keep on keepin' on my island friend.
erc, it better not be that long until your back in the islands! Though, to be fair, I'm not sure when we'll make it to the Far East (Coast)
And sorry to disappoint, but we aren't planning on having any little ones! But we'd love to welcome you and the gang back soon and perhaps have more of an adventure next time. And please give my regards to the erc clan!
Aloha from Hawaii
