We have a BOGO Delta certificate that we need to use soon and would like to use it for a relaxing trip to Florida. (We really want to return to Hawaii, but can't use the certificate and can't justify the expense for just a few days.) We are looking for a location with a wonderful Marriott (would prefer full service, but would consider others) that would take good care of us. Being near good restaurants, unique window-shopping, etc. would be a bonus. We plan on renting a car. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Tough call, since it depends on what you're looking for.
For relaxation we like Naples.
For shopping we like Palm Beach Gardens.
For isolation we like World Golf Village Renaissance, near St. Augustine.
For in-city walking, history and dining and a more boutique environment we like Casa Monica, St. Augustine.
The Vinoy Hotel in St Petersburg Florida is a great historic hotel owned by the Marrioit in downtown St. Petersburg sitting across from the Bay. The City of St. Petersburg is a vibrant city, with lots of things to do. The Vinoy is a great location, for 50 cents, you can take a trolley to the many museums, restaurants ,and concerts the city has to offer. Lots of things to keep you busy for a week. St Petersburg sits on Tampa Bay. Across from the hotel there are Sail Boats you can charter at very reasonable prices. You can take a day trip to Sarasota and visit the Ringling Museum. Naples is 2 and 1/2 hours away.
If you like the beach you can split your stay, and move to the Marriot Sand Key, its located in Cearwater, all part of Tampa Bay area. The hotel has a great resort feel, a trolly will take you to the beach. If your traveling with children, Cearwater Beach has a Pirate Ship, that is fun to go out on, as well as many other great activities,
Hands down Florida Resorts | Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort, Golf Club & Spa as the resort will have you thinking you've traveled to the islands. The beach is beautiful and large, Marco Island has very good shopping and dining, should you want more shopping drive 25 minutes north to Naples. If you can score one of the lanai rooms located on the end of each wing of the hotel, WOW!
Marco Island is an easy 45-50 drive from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) located just off I-75 in south Ft. Myers. Delta has a number of flights into RSW with a large number of them from Atlanta.
