The Ocean Club is beautiful. Enjoy.
We've been to Aruba 3 times. Only time we rented a car was to go to the other side of the island for a day. We use the public bus to go to town. I think it is $1 per person each way. W used cabs to go to restaurants. Cab fares are resonable. 7-9 dollars to get to most restaurants.
A car is helpful if you want to sightsee. A car will take you to the Gold Mine, Natural Land bridge (it fell apart four years ago but area is still beautiful), Lighthouse, Baby Beach, great restaurants like Flying Fishbone, grocery shopping (if timeshare owner), etc.
You can get the car cheep with online reservation. We've used three different local companies (you don't have to use the majors) ---all no problem.
To rent a car for a week might be a waste of $ as there are plenty of cabs if you want to head into town and much cheaper vs a car rental. We did rent a car for a day and did our own tour around the island and that was totally worth it! You can rent cars right at the Marriott when you get there so no need to do any reserving in advance.

Just booked Aruba Marriott surf club in September. Wondering if I should change to the aruba Ocean club villa instead? Does anyone know the differences between the two and do they have a preference of one over the other?
Have you stayed at the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino using Marriott Reward Points and if so did you use Points or Cash to upgrade to the Tradewinds Club Level and did you find the added amenities a value?
We are heading to Aruba staying at the surf club (we were assigned surf club through trading our timeshare). I read trip advisor and other than early beach chairs claiming what else do we need to know? We will be renting a car. Help with tips
