Mexico: beach or city?

Mexico has a lot to offer. It has wonderful cities filled with history such as Mexico City, Puebla, Oaxaca, Guanajuato, Mérida and San Cristobal de las Casas. It also has beautiful beaches with incredible resorts and service like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta and Cabos.

Beach, but beware of drug violence that has spread to many parts of the country and in some isolated instances the resorts as well.

Yes, I guess one must be careful anywhere in the world.

Some places are more dangerous than others and I'd offer that Puerto Vallarta has a much more historical city than Cancun.

And we feel super safe there at the Puerto Vallarta Marriott.  We've been there for 5 years in a row, and can't say enough about how wonderful they make your experience.  You will see a few of my reviews on the place from years past.  Haven't gotten the one up from last fall, and that is up towards the top of my "to do" list

IAHFLYR, Puerto Vallarta has a great historical city with it's beautiful "malecón". The city of Cancun isn't that wonderful, but around Cancun there are incredible historical sites.

Agreed such as Chitzen Itza and Tulum.
