Hi screenmachine. When you go to update your status on Facebook you will see an option in the box for "place." If you are updating from your phone it will say "Check In." When you click on these you should see the participating property in the drop down. If not immediately there, start typing the name of the hotel. Hope this helps!
The Facebook "Check In" Feature is only available on mobile versions of Facebook. The actions you described above on the desktop/laptop (Web Browser) version of Facebook is known as "adding a location to a post" and is not considered the same as a "Check In".
Update! screenmachine, vaboywnder, Tommo781 - Both "checking in" on Facebook via a mobile devier and "adding a location" to you post on Facebook from your desktop count. However, you must be at (or very near) the property to do it, so you have to post during your stay.
screenmachine Still waiting on public vs. private posts, but my guess is that it needs to be public for the team to track it.
I'm surprised that "adding a location" from the Desktop version of Facebook will count as you do not have to be near a location to do this. I'm in Virginia and can "add a location" for a participating property in any other state on a Facebook post. However if using the mobile version of Facebook to perform a "Check In" the GPS in the device would verify that I'm actually at or near that location.
I'm not actually participating in this promotion anymore but I would hate to see someone waste their time "adding a location" and it not result in points.
Please don't think I'm trying to be difficult. You said it works from a desktop when you "tag the location if you are at/very near the property". I don't see how that is possible since desktop computers do not have a GPS systems built in. Mobile Devices do have GPS systems which is why the "Check In" Feature is only available on the mobile version of Facebook.
No worries vaboywnder! Iknow you just want the best for our community.
It has been tested so the team assures me that it works. It may be that the IP address of the desktop helps with tracking.
I think the issue is also who carries their desktop around with them KatieC
But vaboywnder and yourself have specifically been talking about desktops. Totally different to laptops.
Richmond Marriott? I thought you were a big fan of Residence Inn Richmond West End.
Ok wiseguy, trying to be a smartypants aren't you? Well, I ain't KatieC. Your nice guy approach doesn't work with me fella, I run with the forum's bad boys!
When I checked the thread, Marriott Rewards Plus Points (oh my, started by none other than vaboywnder) I discovered in the FAQs #5
No. See the list of participating brands and properties. Registered participants in the PlusPoints promotion do not need to be occupying a room at these properties in order to earn points.
My favorite property, The West End Residence Inn, wasn't eligible. I decided if I was going to haul my computer all across America to capture 25 points, I would at least take it to a property that was eligible, such as The Richmond Marriott. ps - I'm now heading out to a secret meeting of the bejacob August Private Promotion Society, so I will not be able to respond to any of your snappy comebacks . Do not take my lack of response as being stumped .
