Comfortable places to golf in summer

I stayed in Hilton Head last August at the Grande Ocean and played golf every day.  Had a great time, but the heat was almst overbearing!

Where would Marriott travelers recommend taking a golf vacation in the summer to avoid opressive heat?  I'm most interested in locations served by a Marriott Vacation Club.

Don't give up on Hilton Head.  Last summer was the hottest on record.

Park City, Utah - great golf, hiking, biking, fishing restaurants and an excellent Marriott Vacation Club at the base of the the ski slope in town.  Summer is the best time to visit there.

While I am a huge HH fan, my family has had a Marriott Timeshare there for 15 years, I do tend to enjoy it in the spring better then mid summer.  For a somewhat "cooler" golf trip take a look at Williamsburg, VA.  The Marriot Manor club at Ford's colony is nice, and there are endless golf courses around.  As well as other fun family related things if you are interested.  Another good option is heading out west to Marriott's Timber Lodge @ Lake Tahoe.  Some nice golf courses and scenery!  Good Luck!

You may want to consider Michigan for the hot days. There is and excellent Marriott property in the nothern part of Michigan directly on Lake Michigan in Bay Harbor, 3600 Village Harbor Drive, Bay Harbor, MI 49770, 1 231-439-4000.

Excellent golf with breathtaking views, the lake for the family and a great hotel.

Maui is hard to beat in terms of golf courses and weather.  San Diego is also great, especially the coastal courses (Torrey Pines, La Costa) - not sure whether there is a Marriott Vacation Club nearby, though.

    Josh,

MVCI has beautiful resorts in Hawaii with quite a few golf courses to choose from, but I would also recommend Newport Coast which sits right above Pelican Hills CC.

I would say Golf in New England in the summer is great.  I'm originally from TX and only new about golfing ni extreme heat in the summer.  I can play a round in Northern NH and not break a sweat.  I look forward to playing at Hilton Head someday, but for weather August, so far northern NH is the best.

I agree with you totally relative to Hilton Head in the summer; more often than not, the heat can be oppressive. I have two ideas for you on summer golf trips, particularly areas served by Marriott Vacation Club. First, check out Vail, CO; there's a lot a excellent courses between Vail and Eagle...and beyond the golf, there's much more to enjoy as well. Secondly, you can never go wrong with Hawaii...I've personally experienced the golf on Kauai, and it's exceptional.

Try Aruba.  Two great courses  Tierra Del Sol and the Devine 9  along with night life and the private beach at the Renaissance make it THE destination for Golf and relaxation.  It is windy though.  That is what keeps it around 72 year round and it has never been hit by a Hurricane.  Only grazed.

It is hard to beat Monterrey, CA.  Although in the summer, you may not see any sun, but if you want to avoid the summer heat, I would highly recommend the area.  Black Horse & Bayonet are two courses you may not have heard of before, but the owners have spent big money to update the facilities and the golf course.  The other obvious choices are Pebble Beach, Spyglass, Spanish Bay and Old Del Monte.  The last course is priced very resonable for the out of town golfer.

Living part-time in Hilton Head summer months are very hot and humid. I'd suggest Aruba - beautiful golf courses and resorts and though it is hot they don't have the humidity. Basically is 82 degrees there most months out of the year so is a great place to visit anytime!

There is a Marriott Vacation Resort just outside Atlantic City, NJ.  This Place is close enough to Atlantic City to do a little gambling or catch a show or tow.  There are two Great golf courses on the Marriott property.  Look them up; they are ranked in the top ten in NJ.  And the breeze off the ocean keeps it cool.

      ri,

Been there many times. Seaview Golf is just next door and also hosts the LPGA every year. South Jersey has quite a few really nice courses within an easy ride of the Marriott Fairway Villas. They're in Galloway New Jersey

There are two places I would recommend: Park City, UT with two MVCI properties and the Marriott Newport Beach, CA property.  In Park City, you can scoot down the hill toward Salt Lake City and play at one of the two 18-hole SLC municipal courses about 20 minutes from Park City.  There is also a fabulous course about 30 minutes south of Park City in Midvale, UT.  The MVCI at Newport coast, CA is right on a very nice course, Pelican Cove.  If you listen to one of their 90-minute sales pitches (shhh!) you can get a free round of golf (maybe 2?) . . . Inland, and to the south, around Escondido, you will find some good courses with semi-reasonable fees.  The West Coast and the Mountain West are known for their moderate summer temps and low humidity.  Enjoy!

If you can get on, Dragon Ridge in Henderson is well worth the trip. It is not as well known as some of the typical names, but the MULTIPLE teeboxes can really make the round as fun or challenging as you desire.

To nheunBoston:  There are no comfortable places to play golf in Las Vegas in August.  I'll be there next week too and the temperature should be around 105 (unless there's a heat wave and it spikes to 110).  If that's not off-putting, one of the most beautiful courses is Reflection Bay at Lake Las Vegas Resort, designed by Jack Nicklaus and about 30 minutes from the Vegas Strip.  I won't see you there, though - I'll be in the pool or the casino.

Vegas will be warm.  Why don't you golf near the JW Marriott in Summerlein?  Hotel is fabulous with server courses.

for great summer golf, try the West side of Michigan - from Hawks Head or the Ravines on the south side to Greystone in the UP. Tough to go wrong!

Try "scenic" Seaside CA, home of two of the most challenging courses on the mainland  Black Horse and Bayonet, former Fort Ord military courses, recently upgraded.  From there you can see the Links at Pebble and save 400 bucks!

We have a Mediterranean Climate:  perhaps the only place in the continental US where you never need air conditioning, and seldom need heat. Summers can be foggy in the am, as the warm air overlays the colder ocean and pulls in the fog.  Given the history of the last couple summers, though, the sun might be there early and stay out. Expect highs in the 60s and 70s, no real insects flying around and bright sun (wear SPF15 at least) as you beat par!

Summer golf at the public course in Holland, MI!

You can golf all day and then enjoy a choice of great food downtown at The Alpin Rose!

Stay at the Fairfield or RI, you will not go wrong.
