What advice is out there regarding duration of stay in Phuket. At that distance the timeshare check-in of Saturday to Saturday seems to need supplementing with some time on points at the Marriott as well as the timeshare. Is that a fair assessment or is there a better strategy?
I too am from the east coast and will be returning to Phuket for our 5th visit on April 2nd. You are correct, why travel all the way to Thailand for just a week. The J.W. Marriott is on the same grounds as the Marriott Beach Club time-share. You could use points, but the hotel's rates are also very good. We go for two weeks and stay at the hotel. Obviously we are great fans of both Phuket and tye J.W. Marriott---why else would we be returning for a 5th stay.
I would definately consider the two week suggestion. We have been there 3 times and own a wek at th MVCI. We have always done 2 weeks.
You might even consider some time in Bangkok. There are some great things to see there.
If you haven't been to Asia before, don't underestimate the power of jet lag. We are from the east coast, so its a 12 hour time difference. It takes a few days to get used to this. Stay long enough so you enjoy Phuket.
We are thinking of vacationing in Phuket too. What sort of things do you like to do while you are there? We are in our 40's and like scuba, snorkeling, sunbathing, easy hiking, sightseeing and restaurants. Aruba was great the past 2 years but we are looking for someplace different the next time. St. Kitts seems impossible to get into.
If you go between Jan and April or so, you can take a day trip to the Similans for Scuba. We did that in February. BEAUTIFUL SCUBA diving.
I have to honestly say that we tend to stay on property when in Phuket. The resort is beyond compare. The gardens, beaches, restaurants are fantastic.
There are many tours or elephant camps (although the property itself has 2 elephants that interact and SWIM with guests daily.)
Summer time especially late summer gets rainy and scuba choices decrease.
