Out of the ordinary buffet in Dubai

In a country and region where buffets are commonplace there is one in Dubai that is way out of the ordinary. Mina As Salam at Madinat Jumeirah is not only a spectacular place to stay but its weekend midday buffets at its Al Muna restaurant are wonderful. Its location is on Jumeriah Beach near the spectacular Burj al Arab hotel.

(Note that as in most Middle Eastern countries, weekends are observed on Thursday and Friday. I have heard that there is a movement in the UAE to re-align this practice to match our Saturday and Sunday weekends, for business reasons.)

There is a continually changing venue of food from which to choose. And since it is a buffet, the variety within each cuisine is wide. For expatriots and tourists there is even a German section with a decent selection of pork dishes. As they say there is something for everyone at the buffet.

The only negative is that the weekend buffet is very popular with the large numbers of expats that live and work in Dubai, but that doesn't seem to slow down the staff one bit. The point is to arrange a reservation in advance.

Bon apetit!

Headed to Dubai August 22-27-staying at Marriott Renaissance.  Any suggestions of what to see or do or eat at while in Dubai?

Hi, Two buffets we like are the Market Place Restaurant at the JW Marriott. (We held our wedding reception dinner there) The Market Place is hard to beat for price and variety. and the other one is the Friday buffet at the Burj al Arab. the last one is VERY pricey, but still an enjoyable experience.

Hi rhammell - I stumbled upon your post, thanks for the insight and the pics! Do you have any other can't-miss recommendations on places to eat while visiting Dubai? My first trip there is coming up in about a month!
