Lots of interesting discussion about these promotions and sharing of loads of things you would never otherwise know! I lost a week earned last year because of the lack of the right category hotels in the UK. Disappointing. The first 2014 offer takes us to cat 5 which is helpful but I achieved my 2 bonus nights with 4 stay within the first month, so perhaps I got the wrong promotion? I am loyal and will respond to promotions but I do have a choice, especially on business trips. What's next please?
Typically promotions are selected for you by Marriott but many Insiders have had success calling Marriott Rewards customer service to switch to an offer better suited to individual travel plans. With the current promotion well under way, it might be too late to change now. The best time to make this request is on or near the day the promotion begins.
I can speak from first hand knowledge that by calling in, MR Customer Service has always been helpful in changing the promotion for me if I wanted another choice. I even had the results of a promo reversed and fixed retroactively after it had been closed (removed credits for Cat5 hotels and gave me the 50,000 points month after the promo was OVER). I fell asleep that summer and was not monitoring promos. Extremely happy.
