Rewards Certificate

I have a rewards certificate for 1 night.  I want to book a hotel using the certificate, but I want to stay for 3/4 nights.  I will pay or use points for the additional nights.  Am I able to make a booking for, say, 4 nights, and use the certificate for one night as part of the inline reservation, or will I have to do something stupid like make 2 bookings and hope the hotel ties them up.

Thanks everybody in advance, cos I know that someone out there will talk me through this.

I forgot to say.  The tutorial for using rewards certificates states "You can only redeem your certificate if the total number of nights and the hotel category match."

But surely I can book more than the number of certificate nights and pay in points or cash for the other nights. Otherwise, what is to stop me booking one night with the certificate, then booking the following 3 nights with points or cash?  I would then phone the hotel and tell them it was the same person, so book the same room for all 4 nights.  This would involve Marriott in unecessary time and trouble.

    I just don't get it.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

I have actually done exactly what you're talking about: used a combo of reward certificates (2 nights), points (2 nights), and cash (1 night) for a 5-night stay, but I called the reservation number on the back of my MR ID card to do it. The reservation specialist was very helpful; it went smoothly, and the confirmation email confirmed the proper transactions. As to whether it can be done online, I don't know. But it can be done by calling the reservations number.

Thanks a million Foxglove.  That's exactly what I will do - ring reservations.  You are a star!

And of course, stating the obvious (but you will be juggling certs/pts./cash while going thru the process), make certain that you select the least expensive night to pay your hard earned currency. Have a good trip.

Thanks very much erc.  I had thought of that, but a reminder never goes amiss does it.

Just thought I would post an update.  This morning I rang the UK Reservations number.  Because all the agents were busy, I automatically got transferred to Global Reservations.  Very impressive.  Much better than being held in a queue for a long time.  The very helpful representative got me booked in for the 3 nights I wanted.  I am paying cash for the first 2 nights on a package which includes dinner on the first night, and using my bonus certificate for the third night.  A really easy transaction - so efficient and friendly.

So thanks Foxglove and erc for your advice, which helped me get exactly what I required, at the best price possible.

And if anyone from Marriott reads this, the representative's name was Dorothy, and she is a star!

Thanks Foxglove.  I am sure we will.  It is a chill out long weekend break, but we are paying so little for it (included dinner one night, breakfast 2 nights, and third night on a bonus certificate) it is bound to be great!

BTW, I grow foxgloves in my garden!

Since this thread has come to a successful conclusion, I can share that back when I wore a younger man's clothes, I once dated a bearded Iris; she was ugly, but she sure could cook.  There you go professor, two oldies references in one reply .

Dare I mention the old man's beard, mother-in-law's tongue and lace cap hydrangeas I also grow?
