What is Marriott doing about this security breach and do you feel they protect our data well enough? Concerns rise as hotel chains disclose data breach

    According to an article in USA Today regarding the White Lodging Security Breach ...

     

    "The suspected credit and debit card breach occurred between March 20 and Dec. 16 at restaurants, lounges and other food and beverage outlets at those properties. Guests who didn't use their credit cards at the outlets or who charged items directly to their room accounts were not affected, the company said."

     

    The article also noted the following properties were impacted:

     

    • Marriott Midway, Chicago
    • Holiday Inn Midway, Chicago
    • Holiday Inn Austin Northwest, Austin
    • Sheraton Erie Bayfront, Erie, Pa.
    • Westin Austin at the Domain, Austin
    • Marriott Boulder, Boulder
    • Marriott Denver South, Denver
    • Marriott Austin South, Austin
    • Marriott Indianapolis Downtown, Indianapolis
    • Marriott Richmond Downtown, Richmond, Va.
    • Marriott Louisville Downtown, Louisville, Ky.
    • Renaissance Plantation, Plantation, Fla.
    • Renaissance Broomfield Flatiron, Broomfield, Colo.
    • Radisson Star Plaza, Merrillville, Ind.

      Is it just me or is there a slight but statistically significant geographical distribution (AUSTIN (3), COLORADO (3), CHICAGO (2), INDIANA (2) )?

        Here is a map of White House Lodging Properties.  They seem to be dominent in the areas you mentioned.  I'm guessing those properties were using the same credit card processing facility where the breach occured.
