These are the round-trip fares In United Airlines from Monterey (MRY) to San Francisco (SFO) approximately 40 minutes fliyng time including ground stops, and a distance of about 86 miles. Given the 90 minutes arrival beforehand and the wait time to get a cab at SFO, it is actually quicker and cheaper to drive!

Who says that airlines can't make  buck?  Not me.

I think the car rental from SFO to MRY is the best however; on an upcoming trip to MRY we found it quite a bit less to connect in SFO to MRY, something like $300 less than flying to SFO.  But those prices are just incredible for a 40 minute ride on an E120.

So other than the normal delays you find at SFO and having to at the last minute go get a car rental in order to get to MRY the same day it's all good!

I would not even consider this even if it were cheap.  With prices like this, only the rich can fly.  There must be enough of them to fill a plane or maybe, one takes this as a private plane ride.

IMHO Monterey Regional Aiirport continues to exist for one reason, and no it's not to cater to the uber rich around  here, they use the FBO formerly called Million-Air, now the Monterey Jet Center.  It is to feed the voracious appetite of government travelers who depart Monterey for points East and West. Government fares are normally the two week advance type, but it is a steady stream of travelers, allowing three major airlines to operate from here.
