I travel plenty but never seem to find a convenient Marriott near my site. As a result of this I've gotten top status at another Hotel and not by choice but need.
I've asked marriott for some assistance to keep my status but they don't seem interested.
Love the brand ...and the service... they don't appear to love me the customer as much.
Any options ?
First off, welcome to Insiders, hopefully this won't be your last post (tell us about where you go and stay). You're a platinum already so you must have had a drastic change in travel sites, the usual beef in this forum is that "Marriott has cut back benefits, but what can we do, they're everywhere we need to stay" (also a reason for disgruntled CY customers not being able to shift over to SpringHills). IMO, your intuitive assessment that Marriott doesn't love you as much as you them is accurate. Marriott is running on all cyclinders, hitting stock price 52 week highs and setting earnings records in spite of the numerous customer defections over real and perceived customer service slights.
Take a look (earnings report) http://www.rewards-insiders.marriott.com/message/93547#93547
Here's one of the reasons Marriott can be somewhat cavalier over departures - Asian development and 100 million (4 million which are already Marriott Rewards members) Chinese traveling abroad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hRtOT00_qw
It's a numbers game and we are just the tail of the dog (or as Norm of Cheers liked to say, "it's a dog eat dog world and Rewards members are wearing Milkbone shorts").
Depending on how short of 75 nights you are, you can:
1) Call again (call plat line and go from there - don't call rewards direct), sometimes (in this age of consistent inconsistency) it depends on who answers the phone, you might get a empathetic rep who's feeling helpful. Also, has someone actually confirmed that you will lose your platinum status? (sometimes Marriott carries you for awhile,even quietly rolling over the status).
2) If you haven't already, consider the usual suspects; booking an event (10 in one fell swoop) or the credit card (15 nights right off the bat);
3) Short of that, the only other option I can think of, is to enjoy your Gold status when you do stay at a Marriott (theoretically status drops are only supposed to be one level per year - but don't shoot the messenger if this changes) and study up on the bennies of the new chain's benefits.
Although things are always subject to change, http://www.rewards-insiders.marriott.com/message/90756#90756 on September 17th marybr (a Marriott rep) stated that the Platinum challenge "Taste of Elite" (where you call and ask to participate) was no longer available and would only be offered during set promotional time frames (which of course could mean tomorrow or never again).
