We picked up the Houston Official Visitor's Guide when we visited the Texas Visitor Center. In the guide, it announced 3 new Marriott hotels opening in the downtown area. The J.W. Marriott, slated for a spring 2014 opening, will be a 323-room hotel in the gutted102 year-old Samuel F. Carter Building on Main Street. Opening in mid-2015, a new Springhill Suites will be opening in the historic Humble Oil Building complex, also on Main Street. It will have 166 rooms. A Marriott Marquis is due to open in spring 2016. This 1000-room property will be built adjacent to the GRB Convention Center.
(IAH, maybe you can keep us updated on the progress of these new hotels.)
Yep, I will attempt to abscond with information as I can, the JW downtown has been known to be opening in June 2014.
The Springhill will be right there in the Humble Oil Building area which already houses the Downtown Courtyard and Downtown Residence Inn. The old Humble Oil Building is in a great location near the convention center, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and right on the Light Rail Line (whatever that's worth in Houston) and is easy access to and from I-45 as well as Hwy 59.
The Marquis will be very nearby the Humble Oil complex and another excellent location in downtown.
Thanks for the info.
