San Francisco Dinner Recommendations, please.

pluto77 Alumni Steward Gold 25 Reviews
Currently Being Moderated

I am taking my 30 yr. old cousin from DC to dinner tonight in The City.  Can anyone recommend some nice restaurants, or point me to links from prior discussions.  I have very little time to sort this out and the pc is a slow boat to China.  And has anyone ever dined at Tatich Grill?  If so, thoughts?

Thanks.

I am NOT a local, but I recently enjoyed two EXCELLENT (albeit expensive) meals at restaurants picked out by (knowledgeable foodie) locals when I was out there - I recommend both without hesitation.

    • Millenium - Union Square - exceptional vegetarian dining - tough to get a reservation (we went late, but it was well worth it) - Millennium Restaurant
    • Boulevard - near the port - very good, interesting place - Boulevard - mobile version

Boulevard is very good we have visited a few times.

another one which we have visited a few times and really enjoyed is kokkari http://www.kokkari.com/about/index.php

I have been to Tadich and would highly recommend it, as a throwback to an earlier, nicer experience.  Great food and not so reasonable prices however, but then it is THE City as its called.

Definitely the Tadich. I've been going there since I live in SF (most of the 80's) and it's still my first visit when I come to town.

FYI, State Bird Provisions is currently closed for renovation.  Good luck to wherever you go.  I have a few in mind, but I think they are closed on Sundays.

Try the North Beach Rest. in Little Italy.  Food is 4 Star, old school service and food.  Off of Stockton and Columbus.

Thank you everyone for the rapid responses. Very helpful. I sent my cousin a list compiled from everyone’s recommendations and she picked Bistro Boudain at the Wharf, which ended up being an excellent choice as the food was delicious and neither of us had been to the wharf in over 20 years, so it was a "twofer."

I decided to compile a list of restaurants based off of recommends both here and from the other SF threads, for ease of use. Thanks to sg1974, jerrycoin, ssindc, merb, anadyr, richard37075, kimkdallas, marriottmemberfromla, painedplatinum, mikiegfla, boatpi, appraisalplusservice@yahoo.com, IAHFLYR and many more Insiders for their input along the way.  Sorry if your name got left out.  Your contribution was greatly appreciated, nonetheless.

      pluto77,

WOW, great extensive list.  We've had a few drinks and appetizers at Bistro Boudain and it was very good, their dinner menu looked equally as good so thanks for the tip.

You also found the diner in your list that I couldn't recall the name of, Fog City Diner.....and must try.  We stumbled upon it one Sunday morning for brunch and it was so good, even fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and orange juice to mix with a nice vodka!

      Thanks for sharing this information.
