OK... So I heard about this and decided to go for it since I'm just that kind of guy. Went to the website and sent this in:
comments: I am currently Marriott Rewards Gold and am on my way to Platinum status. However, I read that Marriott offers a Platinum Challenge and I would like to see if I might qualify for that. I stay 3 nights a week every week in a Marriott hotel in Atlanta and will be doing so through the end of November if not longer.
Please let me know what I need to do to enroll in this Platinum Challenge."
Next day, this was in my inbox:
Dear Mr. B
Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards.
On behalf of Marriott Rewards Guest Services, please allow me to extend an offer to you to conditionally upgrade your status to the Platinum Elite level. This new status would be valid through November 30, 2013; however, an updated membership card would not be processed until the following terms have been met.
In order to maintain this status, you must accumulate nine separate paid stays beginning with the date the upgrade is processed, through November 30, 2013. This is a one-time offer, and would be effective within 24 to 48 hours of your acceptance of this upgrade offer.
Once you have accumulated nine separate paid stays, the Platinum Elite status will be extended through February 2015. To retain this status for all of 2015, you would need to stay the qualifying number of nights during 2014. The Silver Elite level requires 10 personal paid nights, the Gold Elite level requires 50 personal paid nights, and the Platinum Elite level requires 75 personal paid nights.
Should you be unable to accumulate nine separate paid stays during this trial period, your account would be returned to your original status, and you would need to stay the normal night requirements to regain this Platinum Elite level.
Many of our promotions have a "stay" requirement. This is defined in our program information, as well as the terms and conditions of each promotion. A "hotel stay" or "stay" means all consecutive nights a Marriott Rewards member registers and personally pays and stays at any participating hotel. For example, two consecutive nights stayed in one hotel qualifies as one paid stay.
To be eligible for this offer, each stay would need to be individually booked in the name on your account, you must check into the hotel, and you need to pay the hotel directly for the stay. You are not eligible to earn credit for stays in another name (even that of a friend or family member), stays booked as part of a group or package, or stays booked and paid through a third party.
This information is visible by clicking on the following link for the Marriott Rewards online terms and conditions.
Please reply to this email if you would like to accept this offer, and I will process the information to have your account upgraded and your eligible stays counted for the next few months.
Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance and for making Marriott your preferred hotel chain.

Well, I replied.. TWICE... and still my status says Gold. I'll make it to Platinum on my own, but I would like to have this before going to New Orleans next week.
FAIL MRGS.... I suppose a phone call is in order...
Do you mean MCS as in an airport?
Did you guys say The Putin Challenge?
Good for you! I did a platinum challenge myself at the end of last year and have been enjoying the benefits all year. It's good for Marriott too b/c it boosts loyalty. But here's the thing -- I don't like the language that says it is a "one-time offer." I heard you can do this every couple of years. Anyone else have feedback on that?
I have tried the Platinum Challenge twice. The first time in 2011 missed it by 3 paid stays and in 2012 missed it by 1 paid stay. Also, I asked since only 1 more stay needed for platinum, can I use my points for the remaining stay (not actually staying at a hotel), which is like paying and they said no. Oh well. I am still Gold and have been for awhile now. I was thinking of trying the challenge again but with all the changes I am not sure if they would let me. It never hurts to ask so at the end of the year I will call them for the challenge.
It pays to check http://www.loyaltylobby.com and read their newsletter daily...
Only reason I wanted the challenge was to have the status prior to my trip to New Orleans this coming weekend... well.... there IS the 50% vs. 25% bonus points thing that is an incentive as well...
Too bad they discontinued it. I did request for it a while back (via e-mail) but they did not offer it to me. So much for being an "Elite" member. I am planning another trip soon but would have to think if I should go with Marriott or select the cheapest hotel option (since I am not offered Platinum challenge I do not see any further value of staying in Marriott chain). Would have been nice to lump the Platinum challenge... oh well
