I assume you will be staying at the Marriott on Orchard Road? It is probably one of the most convenient hotel on the strip. The hotel is right on the Mass Rapid Transit, and connects to many of the malls. I would recommend visiting Chinatown, Santosa, Night Safari at the Zoo (believe me, it is worth it).
As far as restaurants, if you want to experience the local fair, forget the restaurants and just try the food courts in many of the malls. There you will be able to try the many local favorites which can only be found in Singapore. The food court is clean and safe. You can go to the food court in the basement of Ngee Ann building which is connected via underground walkway from the hotel. Believe me food courts in Singapore is nothing like food courts here in the US.
I would recommend Long Beach Seafood if you are a seafood lover. http://www.longbeachseafood.com.sg/main.html at their East Coast main restaurant, the Chilli Crab is a must try.
Great info. I'm at the Singapore Marriott right now as I post this and I've got to say that this is quite an interesting place! I also suggest doing the night zoo tour, walk the botanical garden, and explore Chinatown.
The MRT metro system is pretty simple and cheap. Even taxi's are pretty cheap. Seems like no matter where you go from the Marriott, it's only $10-$15.

I'm a Platinum member. When I made reservation for 3 rooms with award nights, I was told all my guests can have access to the Executive Lounge. In KL Malaysia yes, but in Singapore we were very disappointed as my guests were denied access. Why?
