Has anyone stayed at either of the Marriott properties in Beckley, WV (Courtyard or Fairfield Inn & Suites)?
I'm considering exploring southern West Virginia (and parts of western Virginia and North Carolina) on my next county collecting road trip and could stop at either property on the way, but would like some insight from MR Insiders.
Spent a lot of time working in that area, and either hotel is fine. Typically, the CY will be a little more expensive, and a tad bit more expensive, but if you are doing those early morning departures, the FF will be just fine.
Three places stand out that I would recommend:
The Greenbriar Resort, to at least visit.
Same with The Homestead, just East of there,in Virginia,
The Statue of John Henry, and the folklore that goes with the story. You will find it between Bluefield and The Greenbriar.
You will be in historic, "Coal County", and any musuem, point of interest, or Chamber of Commerce, will be interestin!
Good luck, and have a safe trip. Sure enjoyed reading about your Northern Michigan adventure!
