So there is a question floating around about when you "gift" a reservation and make it in another person's name to see if they get your status when checking in.
My question is the opposite.
I am lucky enough to be in a position where my parents are going to pay for a honeymoon and rather than give me the $ to pay, my father would like to charge the flights/rooms so that he gets his own points! Since the reservation will be under my name, and I have platinum status, can I receive the benefits at check-in or will it be based on his reservation?
Secondary question would be can I upgrade the rooms using points if the reservations are made by him but under my name.
Will the reservation will be made under his Marriott Rewards account or yours? If the reservation is made under your Marriott Rewards Account Number and you have Platinum Status then you will receive your Platinum Benefits as usual regardless of who pays for it. If the reservation is made under your Dad's account and he is non-platinum then you may or may not receive the platinum benefits depending on whether or not the property decides to honor your status. If this is the case I suggest taking your platinum card along with you to show the front desk agent when you check in and hopefully they will allow you to take advantage of the platinum benefits.
