Stayed @ the Marriot Marquis in Tikmes Square for New Years Eve. What a great experience all around. Great hotel. Highly recommend

The Marriott Marquis is a great hotel; it was my choice of hotels in the City for many years. If you want to try a quieter area for a weekend with great views try the Financial Center Marriott. You can get a room or a suite with a beautiful view of the Hudson, the Harbor, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Had a suite there during the 4th of July a few years ago, and the fireworks were spectacular; we could see both the East River and Harbor fireworks from the suite. Great shopping nearby at the Century 21. Getting uptown to Times Square is about 10 minutes by subway/Rector to Chambers on the 1, transfer to the 2 or 3 express at Chambers. Great Soba Houses/ SOBA Nippon(19 W.52nd St) and Nippon(155 E.52nd St) you might run into Hideki Matsui at Soba Nippon in the summer, as it is his favorite soba house. Nippon Restaurant is more traditional.
